Experiments in Blue: Week 50

12/14/16

Friends, can you believe there are only two more weeks in 2016? For this week’s 2016 Experiment in Blue, I painted a vintage milk carton (this is also part of my new series of painting of vintage packaging, which you can view on Instagram). A little disclaimer here:  so some of you may find this image confusing because, no matter the brand, in the U.S. of A. usually the packaging for Whole Vitamin D milk is usually RED & Lowfat milk is BLUE; and truly, the original packaging on this vintage carton was indeed red, but I wanted to paint it blue so it could be this week’s Experiment in Blue. So I guess you could say this is this week’s “Cheat” in Blue, but, you know, art. And when you are an artist you get to make your own rules.

Happy Wednesday!

Friends, can you believe we only have three weeks left in 2016? This week for my Experiment in Blue, I painted another specimen of vintage packaging. This week, it’s an old, old coffee can! I’m on a role with painting vintage packaging and type, which you can view over on my Instagram feed (with hashtag #lcongdonpackagepaintings).

Have a great week!

Experiments in Blue: Week 48 (and 47)

11/29/16

Hello friends! Hope everyone had a great holiday (at least those of you in the U.S.). I am here to share with you my latest Experiment in Blue  (Week 48) and also to admit that I barely (and admittedly lazily) completed Week 47. More on that in a minute.

Suffice it to say, I am losing focus on this year-long project, which typically happens at the end of a year-long project! But I swear I’ll finish! Four more weeks!

ANYHOW, above you can see this week’s drawing. It’s part of a new series of work that I am making — all vintage packaging (which I love). You can see all of these paintings as I create and post them over on Instagram.

Below is my lazy Week 47 Experiment. I was having a hard time motivating for a few weeks there in general, especially when it came to making art. Instead of creating nothing, I managed to make a simple sketchbook spread the night before Thanksgiving (as I dreamed of all the stuff I’d book cooking the next day). Not my most scintillating work, but…life. I am happy to report, my motivation for making new work has returned in the last few days! So you should be seeing more from me in the coming weeks.

Creative block: it happens to all of us!

I’ll be back on Monday with Week 49! Stay tuned!

Experiments in Blue: Week 46

11/14/16

This week’s Experiment in Blue is a collection of cabinet portraits I’ve been decorating. I started drawing on cabinet portraits years ago, and started this most recent series the summer of 2015 while I was at my Hudson residency. I’ll have some of these for sale at my studio holiday sale on December 2 (more info on that next week, but Portlanders, save the date.)

This week’s Experiment in Blue is a large painting at 3 feet by 4 feet! It’s one of the largest paintings I’ve made in a long time. Here you can see my latest collection beginning to form in my new painting studio:
