As promised, another vintage-inspired sunburst.
Have a good day, friends.
I love those rainy days when it (if like magic) stops raining and the sun comes out just when you are doing something outdoors. Today I got up to go swim my laps, and it was pouring rain (hailing, actually). And just when I got onto the pool deck the clouds cleared and the sun came out. They sky remained blue for the entire hour of my swim, and it was so nice.
I love vintage-inspired sun burst imagery, and the painting above is the first in a series of sun bursts that I’ll be making over the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned for more.
Also: thank you for all the love you’ve given me about the opening of my new shop yesterday! I haven’t had a chance to thank everyone individually who posted/tweeted/FB’d about it. It was heartfelt. Thank you.
Here are a few more pieces from the collection I featured yesterday. Enjoy and have a great Tuesday.
A couple of years ago I started creating kid-friendly characters in my artwork. It began with the owl you see above (and a bird, not pictured here). And then this past year I added the squirrel and hedgehog. I love creating bright and bold artwork for kids! I’ll share a few more tomorrow.
You may recall a couple of weeks ago, I posted some new illustration work I’d done for the children’s market. Here are a few more pieces in that series. Both are available for license through my agency. They are made from gouache + vintage paper (one of my favorite combinations, incidentally). Enjoy.

Last year I worked for nine months painting 150 full color illustrations for the most amazing children’s book. The experience was grueling (I even broke my arm right before the deadline!) but it was a labor of love. I am so happy to announce that the book, The Dictionary of Extraordinary Ordinary Animals, is now available! I feel so grateful to have worked with authors Lisa McGuinness and Leslie Jonath and the amazing Sara Gillingham (book designer), and I would do it all over again. You can get your copy here or at your local book store.
One of my favorite ways to spend the afternoon is making drawings inspired by the odd combination of medieval villages and mid-century style illustration. These are all drawn on vintage paper with gouache and ink. You can see more of my children’s themed artwork {including more from this series} in my online portfolio.

Hello friends and welcome to my brand new blog! This is a place where I will post daily images of my work and things that inspire me. I hope you will follow along. Until tomorrow, au revoir!
