Happy New Year, friends! Thank you for following along on my project over the past year.
Stay tuned Thursday for the announcement about my 2013 project.
To possibility!! Have a great 2013.
{a few shots of my sister’s home; bottom left: a mushroom drawing I made & gave to her last year}
Last night my family gathered at my sister’s home for a spaghetti feed and homemade bread. Some of you may know my sister Stephanie from 3191 Miles Apart. She’s an incredibly talented maker, cook, writer, photographer and stylist. I have been coming to visit her SE Portland home since 1999. My sister has innumerable talents, but to me, one of her greatest talents is in creating a cozy and warm living space. When I was younger and going through some particularly difficult times, my sister’s house was the first place I wanted to be. It was the place where I felt the most safe in the world. Through her front door I have always found good food, lots of love and a comfortable place to sit.
You can check out some of my sister’s work — her crafts, photographs, styling and writing (and more images of her home, kids & life) — here on her blog (she’s SCB, and her photos + stories are in the right hand column).
Happy Friday, friends. I’ll be back on Monday with a special year-in-review post and my last 365 Days of Hand Lettering post!
Portland, Oregon, has been my home away from home for the last 13 years. Around 1999, my younger sister moved here with her husband, and shortly thereafter my parents followed, so I’ve been coming here several times a year since then. Over the last two days, Clay and I drove up to spend the next week with my family, and I could not be happier to be here in this beautiful city with all the people I love so much.

Meanwhile, I’m finishing up my 365 Days of Hand Lettering project on December 31! And I’m launching a new project (with another blogger) for 2013 on January 3 that I cannot wait to share with you! Stay tuned!
{Wilfredo (left) and Louie (right) in their new matching jackets!}
As many of you know, one of my dearest friends is ceramics artist Diana Fayt. Yesterday, Diana came over for a Christmas Eve brunch at our apartment. As we do every year, we exchanged gifts, and Diana gave us many beautiful handmade things. On of our most treasured gifts from Diana this year were these amazing matching jackets she made for Wilfredo and her dog, Louie! (You may remember that Wilfredo and Louie have an on-going bromance, which started this summer.)
Now Wilfredo and Louie can prance around town together in their matching outfits. Thank you Diana! And Merry Christmas, friends! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful day.
I have just recently learned about the work of British artist Jane Foster, and I am quite smitten. Jane has been drawing and screen printing for many years and is strongly influenced by mid-century Scandinavian design (no wonder I love her work!). I especially love these Christmas toys that she designed and made. I think they are simply beautiful.
