San Francisco mixed media artist and illustrator Lisa Congdon did not begin making art until she was 33 years old; at age 40, it is now the most significant part of her life and livelihood. Aside from a painting class, Lisa is entirely self-taught. She uses her lack of training to her advantage: instead of following refined technique, she works with her own sense of color, composition and design as her guide.
Lisa is almost constantly drawing, photographing and annotating her life. In addition, she meticulously documents all of her work as she makes it and shares it for others to see through Flickr.
When she is not making art in her studio, Lisa is at Rare Device, the San Francisco design-led shop and art gallery she owns and operates with her friend Rena Tom. Some of her work can be found for purchase at Rare Device, along with her own Etsy shop, Velocity Art and Design, The Shiny Squirrel, Little Paper Planes, The Beholder, Poketo, and Reform School.
Lisa believes in truth telling, working hard, being nice to people and the healing power of pepperoni pizza.
She is available for fine art commissions, illustration work and gallery showings. Contact her here for more information.
